Miki
Ohashi lost her life following a scrambling accident
to Squaw's Tit near Canmore, on October 16th, 2007.
During a climbing trip, she ended with a friend on the
wrong route on their way down the mountain. The pair
had to climb up a gully hoping to get over a ridge but
Miki did not make it and fell to her death.
Miki, 33 years old, lived in Banff for the last four
years of her life. She was a Grand Nature Club member.
She attends numerous day hikes with the club. Through
the Mountain Adventures program with Banfflife, she
participated to different winter and summer outdoor
trips. As well, she was recognized as a dedicated volunteer
for the community.
In despite of her hiking experience, her accident remembers
us to be careful on the mountains. The mountains took
her life but her smile, her kindness and her joy for
life will live in our hearts forever.
For the years to come, the Grand Nature Club will schedule
a Memorial Day hike for Miki on October 16th.
